The household economy is a crucial economic component in Vietnam’s economy. Since the Politburo issued Resolution No. 10/NQ-TW on April 5, 1988, regarding “Renewing the management of the agricultural economy,” with the aim of liberating agricultural and rural production forces, transferring land and other means of production to farmer households for long-term management and use, farmer households have become autonomous units in agricultural production, thus recognizing the household as the basic economic unit (referred to as the household economy). Since then, households have been self-governing in production and business, having full authority in managing production, utilizing labor, purchasing technical supplies, cooperating in production, and consuming the products they create.
The book “Guide to Household Economic Planning” was compiled by the Consultative Institute for Socio-Economic Development of Rural and Mountainous Areas (CISDOMA) based on the content of the “Manual for Household Economic Planning” with support from the Australian Aid Fund for the People of Asia and the Pacific (AOP). The book consists of 03 main parts:
Part 1: Introduces some concepts and terms commonly used in household economic calculation and analysis. These terms and concepts are simplified to be suitable for the target audience of farm households and farmers. Part 2: Guides the steps for analyzing and selecting types of household economy. These guiding steps are also designed according to the specifics of different agricultural livelihood types and rural professions. Part 3: Introduces some livelihood models at the scale of households, household groups, and cooperatives.
This book is aimed at the users who are residents in rural areas, engaged in agricultural and forestry production and business. The book can also be used by development organizations and community staff as a reference when guiding and supporting communities to apply livelihood solutions and develop household economies.
